About Dog’s Best Friend Training
Dog's Best Friend Training is a family-run trainer on a Central Ohio ranch, established in 2008 by Reid and Cathy, with a "state of mind" philosophy focused on the dog's psychology rather than commands alone.
How they train
Their method centers on building trust and respect and addressing underlying behavioral patterns, not just teaching cues. They're explicit about the owner experience too — "we will never shame and blame you" — and provide at-home guidance plus instructional videos after lessons. The process is simple: contact form, in-person evaluation at the ranch, then customized methods folded into daily life.
Programs
Puppy lessons (under 16 weeks, heading off common issues), weekly private training (dogs 4+ months), and an intensive residential board-and-train on the ranch with follow-up lessons included. Pricing isn't displayed. Central Ohio.
Experience & credentials
Owners Reid and Cathy met at Ohio University and started the business after graduating; Reid is a professional member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) and a National K-9 Dog Trainers Association member. The business is a registered Ohio LLC, bonded and insured.
Who it’s best for
Best for owners who want a relationship- and psychology-first approach, a no-judgment coaching style, or a ranch board-and-train — good for leash pulling, barking, jumping, chewing, and anxiety. Less ideal if you want published pricing or a force-free-specific method.
Your dog stays with the trainer for an immersive, multi-week program.

We took our rescued Doberman to Dog's Best Friend Training first for a 10 day board and train, followed by 4 one-on-one weekly lessons where my husband and I learned how to continue the training at home. The results have been nothing short of AMAZING. We're not sure who was trained better, us or our Doberman (Drea)…we all learned ALOT! What we found most impressive was the way Reid explained the dog's psychology to us and how she perceives us and the world around her. We now understand how and why she reacts to different stimuli. Dog's Best Friend also included tools of the training (collar, leash, a "place" mat) to allow us to continue working at home for consistency. The training has been super effective and has resulted in a calmer house with our other dog and much less stress for both the humans and the puppers in the home! Drea has her basic commands down, she loves the "work" and we LOVE the results. We confidently took her to Lowe's for some "training" and she did AMAZING! Calm, attentive, ignored distractions, socialized with people and other dogs, walked on leash, did turns and sat calmly on command in a busy environment. We couldn't be happier and can't recommend Dog's Best Friend enough! We're already planning to schedule an additional 4 week training to continue improve. 5-stars!!!

We’ve been so pleased with our dog training from DBF! We loved the individualized, personalized classes and how they worked directly with us to address and meet our goals with our new puppy. They have an immense knowledge of dog training and take time to help you understand the process. They are very accommodating with schedules and really get to know you and your dog so you can be most successful with your training in the future.

Reid has been great with making real progress with our fearful golden in just a month. Above all, he is a great human trainer too… I have gleaned so much insight about dog behavior that I'll be using for the rest of my life (that alone has been worth it). There are a lot of sketch "trainers", Reid is the real deal and worth your time.
