About Dogz’nHarmony, Inc.

Force-free training and behavior consulting

Dogz'nHarmony describes itself as "FORCE-FREE PROFESSIONAL DOG & PUPPY TRAINING, AND BEHAVIOR CONSULTING" and says it is "Operating in select southern suburbs of Chicago." Its about page is headed "est. 2011" and says the practice is "Built on over 20 years of experience." The stated goal is the relationship rather than obedience alone: "Dog training is about building a life-long solid relationship between you and your dog."

What is offered

Three routes are published. Customized 1:1 coaching is described as "Convenient! Flexible! Results Oriented Programs Tailor-Made for You and Your Puppy or Dog." "Head Start" day training is aimed at busy owners — "We do the training for you!" In-person group classes are listed as "Puppy, Puppy Socialization, Basic Manners, Adolescent Dog or 'Teenager' , Focus/Distraction, AKC Canine Good Citizen, Fun Nose Work, and Workshops a.k.a. 'WoofShops'." Behavioral training covers "house training, basic manners, destructive behavior, attention-seeking behavior, and more," and the site says the practice specializes "in Serious Behavior Issues like Fear, Aggression, and Reactivity," designing behavior modification and management plans and collaborating with "your veterinarian and/or veterinarian behaviorist."

Method and credentials

The method is stated without hedging: "Dogz' n Harmony uses proven science-based, pain-free, force-free, positive training and coaching techniques," listed on the home page as no collar pops, no shocks, no cans of coins and no spray bottles. The about page adds that the coaching "combines gentle, holistic, and kind methodologies with scientifically based positive motivation and reward-based dog training techniques," and that "Emphasis is placed on rewarding desired behaviors and extinguishing unwanted behaviors." On credentials, the site says Aimee Busse "was one of the first dog trainers in the country to earn the dual certification in both training knowledge and skills (CPDT-KSA) by the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers," which it describes as "the only independent certifying organization in the dog training industry" and "accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)." It states that "Currently there are only 170 dog trainers worldwide to reach this level of certification; 7 in the state of Illinois." The page also says she holds "a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Madonna University," that she "is recommended by local veterinarians and veterinarian behaviorists," and that in "September, 2015" she was selected to participate in a Behavior Workshop for the Shelter Medicine Symposium at Purdue University.
