About Educated Paws Dog Training Services

Educated Paws is Rena Dershowitz's practice, listed on Walton Street in West Hempstead and working throughout Long Island. The site names three specialties and does not pad the list: obedience, new puppy training and aggression.

The stated philosophy

Rena's philosophy is published in one sentence: no two dogs are the same, and therefore no two training programs should be identical. In practice the site says she designs the curriculum with the owner, fitted to their lifestyle rather than to a fixed syllabus.

Credentials and background

She was certified as a master trainer by Richard Maller of the United States Professional Dog Trainers Association, and the site describes membership of several industry organizations. It publishes thirty-plus years of work as a Long Island dog trainer.

Two formats, and a third life

The published formats are one-on-one lessons in the client's home and weekly advanced group classes – the advanced class being notable, since most local practices stop at private lessons. The site also mentions that Rena competes with her own dogs in agility, obedience and rally, which is where the advanced end of her teaching comes from.

How to start

Engagements begin with an introductory session, booked directly with Rena.
