About Freedom Paws Service Dogs Foundation

What the organization does

Freedom Paws Service Dogs Foundation is based at 5407 E Cambron Ave in Chillicothe. Its home page states that the foundation is “dedicated to providing Veterans and First Responders who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) with a trained service dog to assist in mitigating life's daily challenges.” The tagline used across the site is “Heroes Never Walk Alone,” and there is an application route signposted as “Veterans & First Responders Apply Here.”

Puppy raiser and breeder program

Two supporting programs are described on the home page. Of the puppy raiser role the site says: “Raising a puppy is such a selfless and rewarding experience. Your heart will expand to a size you didn't know could live within you.” Of the breeder program it says: “With our foundations' mission always in mind, we strive to recruit health tested and well bred Labrador Retrievers for the purpose to ensure our HEROES NEVER WALK ALONE.”

Getting involved

The site lists volunteer and fundraising routes, a sponsor and donate page, an Amazon wish list, a shop, and a public events calendar carrying community fundraisers around the Peoria area — among those listed are an Armed Forces Celebration Day, a Festival of Food Trucks in Washington, IL, and a poker run and cruise-in.

Note on scope

This is a service dog placement nonprofit rather than a general pet training school. The foundation's board of directors page is linked from its own navigation. Owners looking for pet obedience classes should ask whether any are offered. Contact the foundation directly about eligibility and timelines.
