About Happy Tails Service Dogs
What they offer
Happy Tails Service Dogs is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Phoenix, established in 1996, that teaches people with physical disabilities to train their own dog to be a service dog as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
How the program works
Students and their dogs attend class once a week for about 15 months, with group outings in the community and one-on-one instruction in the student's home. Students must pass the Canine Good Citizen and Public Access tests before the certification test, which two evaluators run at home, in public, during local travel and at a mall. Graduates can become peer mentors.
Cost and contact
All services are free to students. The site asks people to call Joyce Weber to learn more.
