About Harmony Dog Training
Harmony Dog Training works from West 57th Street in Midtown and covers New York City and Westchester County in person, plus Zoom sessions anywhere.
The trainer
Nancy began working professionally with dogs in 1994 after completing a six-month training apprenticeship with the ASPCA's behavior department, and launched Harmony Dog Training in 2005. That is a thirty-year working history, of which twenty years is this business.
The sport background
What sets this practice apart from most Manhattan private trainers is competition experience. She has competed in rally and obedience trials with her Labrador Retrievers, one of whom was titled to the third and highest level in APDT rally (now WCRL) and earned an award of excellence and a top-twenty national ranking. She also lists AKC Trick Dog titles through the advanced level and AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy work.
What is offered
Education for puppies and adult dogs and the people who live with them is how the business describes its own scope, with puppy programs named specifically. Alongside the private training offered through Harmony, she teaches group classes at an obedience club outside the city.
Method
Stated plainly and repeatedly: force-free and reward-based, with the goal of willing, reliable compliance rather than obedience produced by pressure.
