About Harmony Dog Training

About Harmony Dog Training

Harmony Dog Training LLC is an Ann Arbor practice run by Angela Schmorrow and Lowell Zuckerman.

Their own summary: "We're certified professional dog trainers offering modern, force free and

scientifically based positive training and behavior modification solutions for problem behaviors

such as pulling on leash, jumping, lunging and barking at other dogs or people. We help you live in

harmony with your dog."

Services

– **Behavioral Consultation and Positive Training** — "We help identify goals, come up with a

management and training plan, and lead you to success through personalized coaching and support.

We can help you build skills and solutions to common issues from reactivity and aggression to

socialization and basic manners." The site carries pages for an Initial Assessment, Training

Packages, and Individual Sessions.

– **Group Classes** — "Through our partnership with the Humane Society of Huron Valley we currently

offer outdoor puppy preschool, basic manners and reactive rover classes." Classes run at HSHV's

Ann Arbor facility, with the schedule and registration handled there.

Private appointments and group classes are both currently offered, and remote sessions are part of

the practice — one client describes working "both in person and now remotely".

Training philosophy

"Our philosophy is simple and scientifically proven: Reward the behavior you would like. Prevent

reinforcement for behaviors you do not like. Allow your dog to choose to be right." The teaching

approach is to make owners aware of what their own dog finds reinforcing: "With us you'll learn how

to become aware of what is reinforcing to your individual dog and we'll use that information to get

the behaviors and emotional states that make for a happy household!"

Choosing a class

The site is explicit that not every dog belongs in a group: "We recognize that not all dogs are

appropriate for all group classes , but that doesn't mean that you cannot get the training you need

. If your dog barks, lunges, growls, or is very stressed and shy about other dogs, our Reactive

Rover classes are for you." Owners unsure which class fits are asked to make contact before

registering.

The trainers

**Angela Schmorrow** "fell in love with dog training when she adopted her first dog, Jade, in 2000,

and over the years has enjoyed participating in a number of activities with all seven of her dogs,

including agility, flyball, herding, and therapy dog work." Through volunteering at HSHV "she has

had the great opportunity to work with and learn from a wide variety of dogs, and has enjoyed

training volunteers and the community there for the last few years. She finds it particularly

rewarding to help dogs overcome fear, anxiety, and reactivity". She is "a Certified Professional Dog

Trainer – Knowledge Assessed, Karen Pryor Certified Training Partner, Certified Shelter Behavior

-Dog, and an active member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers."

**Lowell Zuckerman** "helps people have the dog they want with the dog they have using relationship-

based, force-free, and scientifically proven methods. His training interests include problem

behavior modification, basic manners, tricks, and agility." He "has been training dogs for over 15

years", has "been a trainer in HSHV's Head Start program, which helps make shelter dogs more

adoptable, and has trained exotic animals including warthogs, reindeer, and emus at a non-profit

sanctuary for non-releasable wildlife." He is "a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, Certified

Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed, an active member of the Association of Professional

Dog Trainers, and is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dog Scouts of America."
