About K9 Scent Sport Center

Nosework in Oakdale

K9 Scent Sport Center is a nosework-only training center at 7200 Hudson Blvd N, Suite 255, in Oakdale, MN. It is led by professional trainer Scott Wenzel, who lists 10 years of training and competing in nosework, 6 years of professional instruction, active competition in AKC and NACSW venues, and work as a Scent Work judge. He started the center to create a place where beginners feel welcome and advanced handlers are challenged.

Approach

Scott treats nosework as partnership rather than control. Training uses positive reinforcement, builds drive through motivation instead of pressure, puts as much weight on teaching handlers to read their dogs as on the dogs' searching, and practices in realistic trial-like conditions. Nosework is pitched for all breeds and ages, including shy and reactive dogs.

Programs and prices

Foundation Nosework ($169) introduces target odor and container, interior, exterior and vehicle searches in groups of up to 6 teams. Continuing Nosework ($160) adds anise and clove, blind searches and distractions. Private training is $90 and includes a custom plan, video analysis of searches and competition strategy.
