Working stockdogs in Payette

K-J Ranch in Payette breeds and trains working Australian Shepherds under the motto "our dogs work for you." Owner Carol Gerken has been involved with working Aussies for over 30 years and in herding trials for over 15 years, and Tina Blasdell joined her as a partner in 2019. At home the dogs do real ranch work sorting, moving and doctoring stock.

Training and trials

Carol continues to train, trial and judge stockdogs of all breeds, and dog training is listed among the ranch's specialties, along with started dogs on occasion and livestock for rent for trials. The ranch credits Carol with breeding and training 7 National Finals qualifiers with Top Ten placements and a National Specialty Champion in Cattle, and its dogs compete in AHBA, AKC, ASCA, MSSA and NCA venues.
