About Longhorn Dog Ranch
Home-style boarding and training in Georgetown
Longhorn Dog Ranch is a family-owned boarding and training facility at 50 Bon Winde Rd in Georgetown, serving Georgetown, Leander and Cedar Park. Dogs board in a home environment with a large shaded backyard split into three fenced play areas. Owner and head trainer Ryan Reed earned his certificate in training from Canine Trade Group, and co-owner Cassie Fox-Reed helps run the ranch.
Training
In-home training happens at the client's home in packages of three or more sessions, for dogs over 6 months with issues like leash pulling, door charging or inconsistent commands. Puppy Head Start, for pups 10 to 24 weeks, covers crate setup, potty training and feeding schedules and introduces sit, down and stay, either in-home or paired with daycare. Board and train aims to get a dog "80% of the way" on leash pulling or door barking, followed by 4-6 weeks of practice at home. Full behavior modification, for separation anxiety, fighting between household pets, indoor elimination and aggression, starts with an in-home assessment.
Approach
The trainers keep things simple, using treats sparingly and moving dogs toward verbal and physical praise.
