About Lucky Puppy Doggy Day Care

About Lucky Puppy

Lucky Puppy Country Doggy Daycare runs on 13 acres and states its mission as "To provide the

services necessary to create, or maintain, a sense of balance and well-being in every dog's life."

The headline claim is cage-free care: "Unlike most daycares and overnight facilities your loved one

will never see the inside of a cage while they stay with us."

Training classes

All classes are "lead by certified instructors", capped at six dogs — "Each class is semi-private

and will be conducted with no more than 6 dogs. Therefore, there will be a lot of one-on-one time."

Proof of current vaccinations is required.

– **Basic Obedience and STAR Puppy** — 7 weeks, $295 ($50 non-refundable deposit). Teaches

attention, sit, down, stay, leave-it, heel, loose leash walk and recall, plus problem behaviors

including jumping, potty training, digging, door crashing, puppy nipping and mouthing, excessive

barking and inappropriate chewing. The AKC STAR portion covers handling, exercise, identification,

nutrition, reaction to distraction, greeting strangers and avoiding separation anxiety. AKC STAR

Puppy testing runs in week 7, included in the price. Students under one year old get 10–15 minutes

of play at the end of each class — "Play time is a time for social dogs to be social —not for dogs

to become social."

– **Advanced Obedience** — 5 weeks, $175. "We will concentrate on the 3 D's (distraction, distance

and duration)", building to a three-minute stay.

– **Super Star Puppy and Canine Good Citizens** — 7 weeks, $295, CGC testing in week 7 and included.

Works the AKC skill list from "Accepting a friendly stranger" through "Supervised separation".

– **Master the Walk** — 5 weeks, $225, conducted outside on the nature trails. "This class is

conducted using positive reinforcement training techniques." Basic Obedience is a prerequisite.

– **Leadership** — a 90-minute private session at $70 per hour, for the owner only: "This 90 minute

class is for you only – not your dog."

– **Puppy Enrichment** — $51 per day, designed "primarily, for daycare pups that may begin showing

signs of problem behaviors as they begin to grow into their adolescence", combining a small

playgroup with "a one-on-one private training session, with a certified trainer, each day".

– **Fun & Games!** — an ongoing weekly hour; basic obedience skills and a temperament test are

prerequisites.

– **Canine Massage** — $70/hr private, $50 semi-private, minimum three sessions recommended. "these

classes are for personal use only (with your dog)."

– **Board & Train** — all-inclusive packages including overnight stays. "Your pup will never be put

in a kennel, while we are not working with them. They will have their own bedroom for lunch breaks

and overnight stays."

Method

"Our training at Lucky Puppy is positive reinforcement! You will never find a shock, prong or choke

chain on our property." The stated first step of training is finding what the individual dog will

work for: "Once we establish a 'pay rate,' it's time to get started."

Daycare, boarding and grounds

The property carries two 3-acre playgrounds, a partially wooded 2-acre playground, a 1-acre

"Jungle Pup" area, 7 acres of nature trails with a pond, a 20' x 40' in-ground bone-shaped pool with

an 8' tanning shelf, and a 1,300 sq ft climate-controlled indoor playground for bad weather.

Playgrounds are supervised by "Pack Leaders" who are "extensively trained in canine body language

and behavior, as well as pet first aid". Daycare transportation is available, safety harnesses on

request. Overnight guests come into the house at 5pm and are separated for sleep "according to size

and temperament". Additional dogs from the same family get a 30% discount. There is a self-serve dog

wash — "This is not a grooming service. This is a wash and dry only." — by appointment.
