About MadKat Dog Training
MadKat Dog Training is Katherine's practice – she goes by Kat – listed on Wilson Street in Massapequa Park and working in clients' homes across Long Island. She publishes more than twenty years as a professional dog trainer.
The published problem list
The training objectives page reads as a checklist an owner fills in, and it is the clearest statement of scope on the site: barking; jumping, at guests and at owners; nipping and biting; sit-stay and down-stay for a dog that bolts; recall; leave it and drop it; loose-leash walking; separation anxiety; resource guarding of food, toys or people; and aggression toward people or other dogs.
Method and format
The approach is reward-based positive reinforcement, described as rewarding a dog for doing the right thing rather than punishing it for the wrong one. Every session happens in the client's home with the owner participating, and the site is blunt about why: 'after all, I'm training the human, not the dog'. The owner supplies the consistency, positivity, patience and persistence. A free fifteen-minute in-home consultation is offered before anything is booked.
What else this business teaches
Two things here are not training and are worth knowing about. Kat runs a Pet CPR Certification Course with its own registration page and reviews, and a Pet First Aid Workshop. There is also a Dog Parent 101 class for new owners, a Pup Up Events page, appearances at local fairs, and work with Girl Scouts toward a pet safety badge. H.E.A.R Rescued and Loved is published as a separate page.
What the site says the owner gets
Reduced stress and property damage, the ability to take the dog along in any situation, and the knowledge to deal with future problems independently.
Who it’s best for
Best for a Massapequa-area owner who wants in-home coaching and is willing to do the daily work, and for anyone in the metro looking for a pet CPR or first-aid course.
