About McClain’s Balanced Dog Training
Balanced training in East Hampton
McClain's Balanced Dog Training is run by McClain Sullivan, who lives part time in East Hampton with her dog Lucille. She is described as "certified in Canine Training and a Behavior Specialist" and is a graduate of Starmark Academy for Professional Dog Trainers, where she "excelled in the immersion program." She works with dogs of all temperaments, "from puppy basics to reducing leash reactivity and separation anxiety."
Programs
Every service starts with an initial consultation to discuss the behaviors going on at home and build a plan of action. Tailored private lessons follow. Puppy lessons cover crate training, housebreaking schedules, correcting nipping and basic obedience. The Stay and Train program pairs solo trainer sessions with owner review sessions to lock in each week's training concepts. Online training runs in half-hour and one-hour sessions over FaceTime or Zoom.
Background
McClain came to training from a background in music and animal rescue, including work as Foster Coordinator for a Brooklyn rescue. Her philosophy, "the intentional creation of a communication and conflict-reduction system between owners and dogs," grew from personally fostering over 60 dogs and helping place and train them in their new homes. Her ongoing education includes seminars with Michael Ellis, Blake Rodriguez and Tyler Muto.
