About Meyer’s Tails Up Farm

A pet retreat on Irene Road, Belvidere

Meyer's Tails Up Farm – trading as Meyer's Pet Care – runs lodging, daycare, grooming, aquatics and training from 5390 Irene Road in Belvidere. The site says "We've lodged and trained dogs for 30 years and are in it for the long haul to help you be the best pet parent," and the pitch throughout is about the owner learning the dog's language: "We teach you the language that dogs speak so when he sees you, he lights up and your bond is stronger."

Training options

The training page lists four routes: group classes, private day training, boarding school, and a Training Buddy Assistance Program. The site says clients work "in small class sizes or personalized, comprehensive one-on-one instruction" with consistent feedback on progress toward their goals. It also promotes a Groundwork Plan – a custom plan built from a conversation about what the dog and the household actually need – and a 30 minute tour visit as the low-commitment first step.

Lineage and influences the site claims

The site says the business is "piloted by owner Kent Meyer, third generation dog breeder of the Meyer family," and credits knowledge gained from his grandmother Lorraine Meyer, described as an esteemed Boxer breeder and AKC obedience judge. It states that Kent, Gwen and team members have trained with John Rogerson of England and the late Lee Mannix, described as a world-class canine behaviorist, and that Kent leads a team of trainers who consult with thousands of dog owners. The line the training page opens with is attributed to Kent Meyer: "Teach them to walk on a loose lead and have a great recall. You can teach them the world."
