About Mill Pond Kennels

Training, fitness and dock diving in Carencro

Mill Pond Kennels is a locally owned training, daycare and fitness facility at 425 Railroad St in Carencro, off Hwy 90, serving Acadiana from Scott, Sunset and Lafayette to Church Point. Besides training, it has a new pool built for dogs, fitness-focused daycare, grooming and boarding, and hosts dog sport events and seminars, with "Try It" sessions open to the public.

How it trains

Training formats include board and train, dayschool, one-on-one lessons and group classes. Group obedience classes teach basic skills and how the facility's tools help a dog understand its owner, with homework plus group walks and social meets after class. Dock diving classes cover distance jumps, hydro dash and air retrieve, and the menu also lists disc games and puppy obedience. Mill Pond describes a habit-forming approach: teaching before correcting, accountability-based leadership rather than punishment, repetition and reinforcement, and support after training. It favors programs long enough for a dog to truly learn, and posts unedited weekly training videos of dogs in the kennel for their owners.
