About Northwest Battle Buddies

What they offer

Northwest Battle Buddies is a Vancouver nonprofit that provides professionally trained service dogs to veterans living with PTSD, to help them regain freedom and independence. Veterans apply to the program rather than bringing their own dog.

How the program works

Once a veteran is paired with a service dog, the team trains together for five weeks in a variety of locations, so the pair works well together and the veteran understands how to handle the dog within the ADA guidelines and the program's own rules. The organization reports hundreds of veteran teams placed, with many training hours per team. It does not specifically train hypoallergenic breeds.

Getting involved

Veterans can apply online; the organization also takes donations and puppy fosters.
