About Northwest Obedience Club

A volunteer club, not a commercial trainer

Northwest Obedience Club (NOCI) describes itself as "an all volunteer, not-for-profit organization" that has "helped individuals to train their dogs to become better household companions for over 70 years." The site states the club was founded in 1953 by a group who trained in a backyard, moved through halls in Palatine, hosted its first AKC sanctioned match in April 1956 and its first AKC licensed obedience trial and tracking test in August 1958. It notes it is a 501 c7, not a 501c 3.

Classes

The published class menu runs across obedience – puppy, beginner, pre-novice, novice, pre-open, open, pre-utility and utility – plus rally, agility from foundation through masters, nose work and a trick dog class. The site says a full menu of classes runs Monday through Friday at its Crystal Lake location.

How to join a class

Registration is by mailed or dropped-off paper application inside a stated acceptance window, and the site is emphatic that "emailed applications are not accepted." Applications must include immunization records and payment. Published fees for puppy, obedience, rally and nose work classes are $150 for non-members, $85 for members without service credits and $60 for members with two service credits, with a one-time $75 rate on proof of rescue or military service; agility fees are listed separately. New dogs are evaluated the week before a session begins, and puppies are exempt from evaluation.
