Oak Creek Retrievers & Training is a retriever training facility serving Bryan, with its base in Hearne just outside Bryan-College Station. It describes itself as a full service kennel offering boarding, all breed obedience, started and advanced retriever training and hunt test training, and it also breeds retrievers.

The trainer

Owner Chris Krause grew up hunting the Katy prairie, river bottoms and the Gulf Coast. He bought his first yellow Labrador in 2008, earned certifications from Animal Behavior College and Penn Foster Career School by 2009, and apprenticed under retriever trainer Steve Hendricks of Hendricks Kennels from 2011, becoming its first kennel manager and lead trainer in 2012. He is credited with personally training over 2,500 dogs there, and with more than 16 years of professional training.

Programs

Head Start Puppy Training builds a puppy's desire to retrieve and socializes it to dogs, decoys, water, gunfire and birds. Obedience Training runs from on-leash control to advanced off-leash work and accepts all breeds over 25 lbs aged 6 months to 4 years. Retriever training is tailored for anyone from the casual hunter to dogs aiming at the Master Hunter title.

What owners say

One family wrote that their Lab "came back his same, happy-go-lucky self" after the obedience program.
