About Shel-Ray Pet Shalet
About
Shel-Ray Pet Shalet in Bristol runs lodging, daycare, grooming and dog training on one site, and its stated mission is "providing the best for your dog, cat, bird or other companion animal in a safe, secure, welcoming environment." The About page names "Diane and Bill Mayer, owners" and tells the history: the business "began Shel-Ray Shepherds, Inc in 1971," "Based solely on training other people's dogs and breeding and exhibiting German Shepherd Dogs," and "began lodging at the request of clients going on vacation" before becoming "the First Accredited Facility in the State of Wisconsin." The name changed to Shel-Ray Pet Shalet "because so many people thought we only cared for German Shepherd Dogs," and the site says "We lodge, groom, train all breeds of dogs."
Classes currently scheduled
The training page publishes a fall class schedule with three courses open, each listed at $160 for a six-week session. Puppy Start Right is "For puppies 12 weeks to 5 months of age" and offers an "Introduction to attention and focus exercises, leash walking, sit, down, and coming when called," with "Emphasis on socialization, management & prevention exercises, housetraining, mouthing, and appropriate play." Canine Social Skills Level 1 is "For dogs 5 months of age and older," with lesson plans including "sit, down, stay, wait, come, leash walking, and more" and, "Using positive reinforcement," teaching "how to apply the basic skills to in-home and public situations." Level 2 is for graduates of Level 1 and "will also prepare those who want to take the AKC Community Canine Test."
Classes listed but not currently running
The page also describes a Reactive Dog Class, Rally Obedience, an About Town Walking Challenge, an AKC CGC and Community Canine class, AKC Fit Dog Level 2, and seasonal classes – each marked on the site as "No classes offered at this time."
Registration
Pre-registration and payment are required, and the site asks for proof of rabies, distemper, parvo and bordetella vaccines at registration. The management team page names a General Manager who is credited with a Certified Kennel Operator Certificate and Certified Companion Animal Specialist certificates and described as "also a Dog Trainer and a Professional Groomer."
