About Sirius Canine Training, LLC

Board-and-train programs from Durham

Sirius Canine Training, LLC identifies itself as a Durham/Chapel Hill, NC business with a Durham mailing address. Its programs are built around board and train: a CGC-Ready Board & Train, a 2 Week Board & Train, a Puppy Board & Train, and Pre-Service Dog Training.

Background

The trainer says the company started in August 2020 but that they have been training dogs since 2005. They describe completing an apprenticeship under a master trainer, being designated a Journeyman Dog Trainer by the NC Department of Labor in 2008, and being approved as an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator in 2020.

Method

The training style is based on operant conditioning: reinforcement for desired behavior and correction for unwanted behavior, while showing the dog the correct response. The site says the trainer does not like shock collars except where a dog's life may be in danger.
