Skye's Dog Training is run by owner and trainer Skye Poitras from an indoor, climate-controlled training facility in her back yard in West Jordan. Skye is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. She started her business in 2004, relocated it to Salt Lake City in 2008, and since 2004 has taught classes ranging from puppy socialization to Canine Good Citizen to service dog training.

Approach and expertise

Skye uses science-based positive reinforcement, rewarding desirable behaviors with food, toys, attention, praise and access to resources, combined with consistent rules, boundaries and humane management. She uses Applied Behavior Analysis to address minor to serious behavior issues. Her areas of expertise include the assessment, management and rehabilitation of dogs with aggression, separation anxiety, fearfulness and phobias, and the training of psychiatric, mobility and autism assistance service dogs, along with puppies and adult dogs of any breed.

Services

Skye offers group classes, private sessions and behavior consultations, plus training programs for service dogs, emotional support dogs, therapy dogs and facility dogs. Gift vouchers can be used for any service.
