About Teachable Tails

In-home training across the Twin Cities

Teachable Tails offers in-home dog training in Minneapolis, St. Paul and the north and west suburbs. Founder Heidi Krause writes that she earned a BA in Biology in 2012, worked at pet supply stores and managed a dog daycare and boarding facility, completed a trainer curriculum with a dog training company in 2017, and worked as an in-home trainer for six years before starting her own business. The approach is primarily positive reinforcement with "appropriate consequences for incorrect behavior," adjusted to each dog's personality and the owner's preferences.

Services and prices

Private lessons teach owners to train their own dog: one lesson is $140, a 4-pack $520 and an 8-pack $960. In the Home Schooling program a trainer visits three times a week for 1.25-hour lessons while the owner is away, with field trips and a conference every two weeks: $1,890 for 4 weeks or $3,500 for 8 weeks. Reactive-dog versions add four follow-up lessons ($2,205 and $3,800). A training consult is $110, or $150 for reactive dogs. Topics include basic commands, potty training, polite greetings, reactivity, resource guarding, separation anxiety and off-leash training. Aggressive dogs are taken case by case, and a $10 per hour fee applies within 5 miles beyond the service area.
