What they offer

The Barking Lot on East Trent Avenue in Spokane Valley combines dog daycare and boarding with training. Its Barking Lot Academy adds training to a daycare day, working each dog in three 15-minute sessions on basics, leash work, thresholds and manners alongside play and socialization.

Classes

The AKC Star Puppy class, for puppies eight weeks to eight months, covers sit, down, an introduction to leash walking, drop it, leave it, recall, name recognition and meeting strangers, with help on potty and kennel training, handling and puppy social time; puppies that pass are eligible for the AKC Star Puppy certificate. Intermediate Puppy, for dogs six to twelve months, adds duration, impulse control, door control, settling, distance stays and focus around distractions, preparing teams for the Canine Good Citizen test. Tricks for Treats teaches moves such as spin, shake, high five, play dead and target training.

Daycare and boarding

Daycare dogs are grouped by size, behavior and temperament, and boarding offers private spaces or a monitored family-style sleeping area with staff on site around the clock.
