Nose work and obedience in Bozeman

The Canny Canine is a Bozeman dog training business that Carolyn Murray has owned and operated since 2012. It specializes in K9 Nose Work classes and obedience classes, and Carolyn is available for AKC STAR Puppy, Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog testing. Programs are designed for the average family pet, and competition is optional in its K9 Nose Work community.

Method

The Canny Canine emphasizes motivational techniques to build thinking dogs who are eager to perform. Its principles are handler accountability, a collaborative team between dog and handler, "high salaries" of food or toys, play in training, and the acknowledgment that sometimes "It Depends." Carolyn trains her own German Shepherds in all three phases of IGP and is a Certified Nose Work Instructor with NACSW, an AKC Scent Work judge and a Certified Trick Dog Instructor.

Classes

K9 Nose Work classes are flexible and ongoing, with an Intro to K9 Nose Work option and free evaluations for teams with nose work experience. Canine Etiquette is a 4 week basic obedience class, followed by Obedience: The Next Steps. A Sunday drop-in obedience group serves existing clients with instructor approval, and Canine Good Citizen testing can be scheduled when a dog is ready. Booking takes a minimum of six classes.
