The Metro Pooch is a dog daycare, boarding and grooming center in Guilford that says it was voted Best Pet Care Center & Groomer on the Connecticut Shoreline. Its day camp is described as supervised, structured playtime tailored to each dog, with socialization, mental stimulation and exercise in a climate-controlled facility.

Programs

Puppy Nursery School runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 to 2 for puppies under 9 months and works on socialization and foundational skills. The regular Doggie Day Care program is for spayed or neutered dogs over 9 months, seven days a week, with dogs grouped by size, temperament, play style and socialization preferences. The Shy Dog/Anxious Dog Program, developed over the course of 2022, is a small-group program for shy and anxious dogs that starts with short visits and builds time as each dog grows more comfortable, with the hope of moving them into regular day care. Overnight boarding fees include play as well as the stay.

Getting started

Every new dog starts with a Meet & Greet of roughly two hours without the owner, which the team uses to learn about the dog and spot where trainer intervention or confidence building may help. Rabies, distemper and Bordetella vaccines, a current town license and a recent negative fecal exam are required.
