Overview

The Training Retreat is the training arm of Barks and Recreation in Evansville, Indiana, operating from a custom-built facility at 2628 N. Cullen Ave. that is designed to simulate real home environments.

Method

Training is immersive and scenario-based. The facility contains individual rooms set up as realistic living rooms, dining areas, and bedrooms, so dogs practice where and how to behave in situations such as staying off the couch, ignoring the doorbell, or settling in during dinner. Coaching is described as customized and personalized to each dog's problem behaviors, and in-home sessions are also offered.

Stay-and-train camps include a 2 Week Puppy Camp, 2 Week Basic Camp, 3 Week Standard Camp, and 4 Week Premium Camp (the Premium option addresses aggression, extreme fear, and separation anxiety). In-home options include Foundations at Home and Puppy Foundations, a hybrid Home & Retreat Package, and a Behavior Evaluation & Guidance session for severe or dangerous behavior issues.
