About Train A Dog Save A Warrior
Service dogs for veterans
Train A Dog Save A Warrior (TADSAW) is a San Antonio nonprofit at 5830 Spring Valley that trains Medical Alert Service Dog teams, each made up of one veteran or client and one rescue, shelter or personal dog. Its mission is to improve the person's quality of life and, in many cases, prevent suicide, at no charge to the person or their family.
How the programs work
TADSAW calls itself a Participant Trained Service Dog program: the client is fully involved in training their own Medical Alert Service Dog for a diagnosed medical condition, following Americans with Disabilities Act guidelines. Four programs serve different groups: TADSAW for veteran service members living with PTSD, MST, TBI or other conditions; TADSAF for veterans' families; TADSAR for first responders; and TADSAC for children and community members with long-term conditions or disabilities.
Who it serves
This is a service dog organization for veterans, families, first responders and community members, rather than a pet obedience school. Its 1700th team was Timothy M and Buddy Maple.
