What they offer

Vashon Dog Training works with dogs of all ages on Vashon Island, including dogs with disabilities such as blind dogs. Services include behavior modification for dogs that are anxious around other dogs or struggle in particular situations, enrichment to give bored dogs better outlets, learning to read a dog's body language and calming signals, and everyday manners such as loose-leash walking, coming when called and polite greetings. Acclimation support helps families prepare for a new puppy or a rescue or rehomed dog, and can start before the dog comes home. Work begins with an initial consultation, followed by session packages.

How they train

The trainer uses only fear-free and pain-free methods with no aversive tools, including clicker training and other positive reinforcement, and starts by making sure a dog is comfortable and not in pain before teaching.

About the trainer

Lidunn Øverdahl Cain is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, a Nordic Dog Trainer and a Calming Signal Specialist trained under Turid Rugaas. She began as a volunteer with the dog team at Vashon Island Pet Protectors.
