About Workmans Standard K9
Who they are
Workman's Standard K9 is a Buckhannon, West Virginia training business run by Cameron Workman,
established in 2026. He introduces himself on the site as "a professional dog trainer who believes
great training starts with understanding", and describes his approach as building trust,
structure, and communication so that dog and owner work as a team. The business tagline is
"Better dogs. Happier homes."
How they train
This is structured, tool-inclusive training rather than a purely reward-based program. The
published method teaches commands through, in order, food, hand signals, voice, leash pressure,
and an e-collar, with the equipment for a given dog agreed at the evaluation. The program is
framed around what the site calls "a permission-based lifestyle", where the handler makes the
decisions and the dog learns to look to them for guidance. Commands are proofed for distance,
duration, and distraction rather than taught in isolation.
What is on offer
Private at-home training runs in three tiers. A one-week basic package covers basic commands,
crate training, and leash training. A two-week advanced package adds place, walks, and threshold
work on leash and, where agreed, e-collar. A three-to-four-week premium package focuses on
distance, distraction, and duration, and adds off-leash recall with an e-collar plus a field trip
to a trail, park, or store. Five core skills are named across the programs – sit, down, heel,
place, come – alongside crate, threshold, and meal manners, and stopping jumping and barking.
Board-and-train runs at four and six weeks, each ending with the dog trained on and off leash
across come, sit, down, distanced down, place, heel, door manners, and meal manners. A longer
Puppy Raise and Train program runs twelve weeks or more. Boarded dogs get two structured walks
a day, weekly updates, and calls or video to check in, and the site says families are provided
with an e-collar as part of the board-and-train package. Premium boarding and care is offered
separately as a day rate.
Every program ends with a handover: the last two days include a session of two hours or more in
which the owner and trainer practice everything the owner will need to maintain at home.
Pricing
Unusually for this directory, rates are published on the site rather than quoted on enquiry –
the private tiers and the board-and-train programs each carry a stated price. Check the current
figures directly, since published rates move.
Before you book
The business states 2026 as its founding year, so it is new. Ask about the trainer's background
and any credentials.
