About Pawsitively K9 Services

The trainer

Pawsitively K9 Services lists Jack Beckwith, Jr. as owner. His history page describes a long route into the work in his own words: raised in Peoria, he writes that he started working with animals after high school, volunteered at Glen Oak Zoo and worked at Wildlife Prairie Park in Hanna City as an animal keeper. He says he got his first dog in 1984 and that “by 1987 I became an assistant obedience instructor at Heartland Dog Training Center (HDTC).” He writes that he later moved to Colorado “to train at International Hearing Dog Inc.,” where “we trained shelter dogs to become the 'ears' for the hearing impaired,” and that he moved back to East Peoria in 2006. He also states he was “(formerly) an obedience instructor at Heartland Dog Training & Education Foundation for over 5 years,” and that he currently has three Belgian Malinois. The home page credits the business with “30 plus years of experience in obedience & specialized training.”

What is offered

The services list covers obedience (“basic commands like down, sit, come, stay, leave it”), manners (“jumping on people, counter surfing, getting into trash”), leash work (“walking nice on a leash, heel command, and no pulling”), one-on-one training, specialized training including crate conditioning and behavior modification, and therapy dog training, which the site describes as preparing “dogs for comfort roles in hospitals, schools, and courts.” Phone and Zoom consultations are listed as available. The site says each weekly one-on-one session “lasts approximately one hour” and that work begins with an in-home evaluation and meet-and-greet.

Stated limits and terms

The site is direct about what it will not do: “I do not board or do any type of protection training.” It also states that it does not provide training equipment such as collars and leashes, that 24 hours' advance cancellation notice is required, and that discounts are offered for seniors and military veterans. For prices, the training page says “For Pricing Information please call.”
