About Underwood K9

What they offer

Underwood K9 describes itself as professional dog training in North Alabama, specializing in behavior modification, obedience and working dog development, and publishes a Joppa address. Its services page says every program requires an in-person evaluation first, with an extended evaluation for dogs with aggression, reactivity or severe behavioral issues. The programs listed are one-on-one private lessons, a two-week on-leash board & train, a 30-day off-leash board & train, specialized behavior rehab on a custom quote, and overnight boarding.

Approach and background

The About page says Underwood K9 uses a fair, balanced approach that rewards good behavior and fairly corrects bad behavior, and that it trains for the real world, around distractions, other dogs and public spaces. It names Joe Underwood as founder and head trainer, credits him with 25+ years of experience including 12 years in the French Ring dog sport, and says he has raised and trained dogs for police, military and personal protection work. It describes the business as small and family-owned, and also mentions a Malinois breeding program.
