About K-9 Training Center
What they offer
K-9 Training Center describes itself as a full-time training facility in Tupelo, teaching all aspects of training, including interdiction. Its site offers two routes: Police Dog Training and Basic Dog Training. The police work it lists covers search and rescue, tracking and apprehension, bomb dogs and sportsman tracking, and the About page says eight dogs the owners have trained or helped train are working in law enforcement.
Training for family dogs
The services page sets out the basic training program. It says the center accepts dogs after 16 weeks, with puppy obedience for dogs up to 1 year and full obedience training for dogs of 1-3 years. The page walks through voice commands (sit, down, stay, come, off, easy, leave it), leash commands and hand signals, and advises owners to keep practice to 15-20 minute sessions. The About page lists a staff trainer, Tyrone Oliver, as specialized in puppy and full obedience training.
Background
The home and About pages say Steve and Mary Ann Shaffer, a Tupelo firefighter and a flight nurse, purchased the K-9 Training Center from its original owner in 2017, and that founder Gary Dodds has worked with law enforcement agencies in the area for years. The services page also describes a boarding service for which owners supply a shot record and food for the stay. Note that the home page states its health and training guarantee applies to dogs the center owns and sells to police departments.
