Training, dog sports and swimming in Mechanicsville

Poseidon's K9 Island is at 200 North Oak Street in Mechanicsville and works by appointment only. Its focus is summed up as Behavior, Education, Swimming and Tracking. The trainer describes more than 9 years of professional experience and 20-plus years of personal experience with dogs of all breeds and sizes, using science-based techniques and personal training plans for each dog's needs and goals.

Training

Classes and personal training go beyond basic and intermediate obedience to introduce owners to dog sports, including rally, scent work, agility and tricks. One-on-one sessions build skills and confidence.

Pool and dock

A 29-foot by 17-foot, 42-inch-deep dog pool with a 20-foot dock level with the water is available to rent, with stair and ramp entry and turf on part of the dock for traction. Dock diving sessions and events are held through the year.

Working-dog breeding

Through Apple River Working Dogs, the owner began breeding and training German Shorthaired Pointers for detection work in 2019, aiming for health-tested dogs for detection, hunting, tracking and scent work.
