About Peak K-9 Dog Training
What they offer
Peak K-9 Dog Training, at 536 Ranchhand Dr in Berthoud, is run by Melanie and her husband Matt. Group classes include puppy 101, basic to advanced obedience, urban agility, nose work and a CGC prep course; each runs one hour a week for 5 weeks and is held at Whispering Pines Pet Resort. Private lessons take place in your home, or out in public after one in-home lesson, and cover puppy basics, manners, advanced and off-leash obedience, plus behavior work on reactivity, separation anxiety, aggression and resource guarding. Board-and-train programs run from a Puppy Foundations program for puppies 8 to 20 weeks old to an Obedience Program and a Behavioral Rehabilitation Program for dog or human reactivity, aggression, and severe fear and anxiety. The site also offers CGC testing for current clients.
How they train
The site describes balanced training that uses all four quadrants of how dogs learn, and says it has found that "rewards based balanced training has allowed the clearest of communication." Board-and-train dogs live in the trainers' home on 2 acres, go on outings to parks, stores and downtown areas, and come home with a go-home lesson and unlimited follow-up lessons. Board-and-train equipment can include prong collars and e-collars.
Good to know
The site says Melanie is a certified trainer and behavior consultant through the Starmark Academy of Dog Trainers and a CGC evaluator through the AKC. Its contact page lists Loveland, CO. Start with the free phone consultation, and ask about prices and scheduling then.
