Happy Trails Dog Services provides reward-based dog training in Helena. The trainer writes of calling Montana home for 30 years and training dogs for 40, and of heading out most mornings with at least one dog into the South Hills of Helena. The trainer is certified through The Academy for Dog Trainers, a three-year certification curriculum, and uses only non-aversive, reward-based methods, summed up in the mantra "Create the behavior then reinforce it!"

Services

One-on-one training uses demonstration and repetition so owner and dog reach training goals together and leave with tools to build on at home; the trainer believes working directly with the owner is essential. Day training happens in the dog's own home while the owner is at work, following a solid plan and teaching the owner how to sustain improved behavior. Gundog training covers the fundamentals of gundog obedience, manners and a retrieve, moving on to handling, advanced retrieve work and generalizing skills, taught with positive reinforcement for hunting breeds in the blind, in the field and at home.
