Overview
About Salty Dogs Obedience & Adventure
What they offer
Salty Dogs Obedience and Adventure is a force-free training business near Ellsworth, now celebrating ten years in business, with a team of credentialed trainers. It works on puppy socialization, basic obedience, hyperactivity, prey drive, counter surfing, polite greetings, reactivity, anxiety, resource guarding, aggression, fear and trick training.
Classes and private training
Group classes and workshops cover basic manners, puppy socialization and specific skills such as loose-leash walking and recall. Private training is sold as a weekly package of one-hour sessions with written notes and a client portal, held in the owner's home in Surry, Ellsworth and the Mount Desert Island towns, or online. Dogs with aggression, fear, anxiety or reactivity go into a separate behavior modification package; the site notes waitlists for both.
Maine Canine Academy
Its training school is not a daycare: dogs at least six months old attend twice a week for two months, combining small-group socialization, one-on-one sessions with a certified trainer and adventure outings, and go home every night. The package starts with a consultation and includes private sessions for the family.
Approach
The trainers never use fear, force, pain, alpha rolls, choke, prong or shock collars.
