About Colonial Dog School
In-home training in Williamsburg
Colonial Dog School is a Williamsburg trainer offering pet training and behavior modification using positive methods only. Lessons happen in your home and are scheduled around you, with evening, daytime and weekend hours.
Private lessons and programs
The basic private program covers about 15 commands in four sessions of 60 to 90 minutes: controlled walk, sit, stay, off, heel with an automatic sit, down, recall, leave it, give/drop, place, wait and quiet. Shorter programs include a Two Week Boot Camp (weekday one-hour sessions at your home), House Training Help, Leash Walking 101, a New Puppy Consultation and a Create Your Own Program option. Group classes are on a break; the school says it is focusing on private work and behavior modification.
Behavior modification
Behavior counseling starts with a 90-minute in-home meeting to observe the problem and build a plan, with follow-up sessions as needed. The site lists aggressions, fears, phobias, house-soiling and compulsive behaviors, in dogs and cats.
Puppy Nanny
For puppies 2-6 months, Puppy Nanny Services cover consults, housetraining visits, walks and play, and basic manners.
What to ask
Ask which program fits your dog and how many follow-up visits a behavior case usually needs.
