About Mannered Mutts Academy

Mannered Mutts Academy in Corpus Christi

Mannered Mutts Academy is a Corpus Christi dog training business founded by trainer Kenzie Steen, who works directly with every client. Kenzie is an Animal Behavior College Certified Dog Trainer (ABCDT) and has adopted and fostered dogs from the streets of Corpus. Her focus is leadership, trust, respect and clear communication between dog and owner.

Programs

The basic package is five private lessons, meeting weekly for an hour, covering 7 commands, the basics of obedience and problems such as jumping, pulling and barking. The ten-lesson package repeats those foundations, then adds five customizable lessons on topics like off-leash work, reactivity, CGC preparation and advanced commands. Doggy Boot Camp is a 10 or 20 day board and train where the dog lives with Kenzie in her home, followed by at least two handoff meetings and free refreshers for the dog's lifetime.

Method

Kenzie describes a balanced approach that mixes positive reinforcement and fair corrections. For some dogs she introduces a slip leash, prong collar or e-collar; e-collars are optional and reserved for dogs over 6 months, mainly for owners who want off-leash work in unfenced areas.
