Who runs it

The home page signs off "Sincerely, Jim and Pamela Rucker, owners." The kennel is "located on 21 acres at 357 Twin Lakes Drive in Lancaster, Kentucky" and describes itself as "a family run business that caters primarily to people who want their pets to enjoy their time away from home." Its tagline is its own: "where they're on vacation too!" The site says it has been "Hosting your dog's vacation for over 21 years!"

What they offer

Boarding is the core, but the training page is specific. "At TLK we specialize in obedience training." Three named programs run.

Basic Obedience Training is "a 7 day program and your dog will be taught to sit, walk on a leash without pulling, come when called, no jumping, and to stay." It ends with an owner handover: "the owner will come to the Pet Lodge for an instructional time before you see your pet," then observes the work and walks through the commands. Four training videos of the dog are included. Cost "starts at $850 (plus a boarding charge during the 7 day stay)."

Behavioral Training is "for dogs that have training needs beyond those skills which are covered in the basic obedience – behavioral issues such as excessive barking, fearfulness, aggression, anxiety, or severe issues with jumping or not coming when called." It "starts at $925."

Severe Behavioral Training is "for dogs with very severe fear-aggression and biting issues," priced at "$1,000+ depending on the particular issues."

The method, in their words

"All training is done with positive reinforcement and correction. We do not use shock collars."

Booking

"When you schedule a training, TLK requires a $300 non refundable deposit to secure the reservation," and the kennel "reserves the right to determine if your dog needs more than just the basic training." The site also notes "Certain dog breeds are subject to higher rates."

The stay

"At TLK, your dog will get plenty of supervised exercise and will interact with other dogs… Each night your dog will have a large clean kennel with a modern comfortable doghouse."
