About Canine Quest Dog Training, LLC
Who runs it
Canine Quest is Kailey Brewster, listed on the home page as "Owner and Head Trainer" with "over seven successful years of hands-on experience using modern and ethical science-based dog training methods." Her About page says "I have been hard at work in the dog training industry since 2018" and that she has been "Certified through the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers since October 2020 and through Fear Free Pets since December 2020."
The approach
The site makes an argument before it makes an offer: "Many dog owners are surprised to learn that the dog training industry is completely unregulated, meaning anyone can call themselves a professional trainer, regardless of their experience, education, or training methods. There is no required license, no governing body, and no standard of care." Against that it sets "science-based, positive-reinforcement training methods set by LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive)."
What they offer
Training: private lessons ("in your home, in public, or on-site"), puppy training, day training (either drop-in "field trips" or a "day school" program), a Board & Train where "campers" stay Monday-Friday and "return home on the weekends to allow owners to stay involved," group classes, and consultations including a free phone consultation. Pet care: drop-in visits, in-home boarding and enrichment daycare. Add-ons listed are nail trim, bath, pick up and drop-off, and training slatmill sessions.
How they work with clients
A consultation is recommended or required for new clients, and it produces "a written training and enrichment outline (included with a consultation)." New training clients pay "a 50% deposit… at the time of booking." The site offers payment plans: "Hiring a dog trainer, like hiring any qualified professional for a service, is an investment and I know the cost can be daunting for many."
Limits she states herself
"with extreme cases of aggression where medical intervention may be necessary, I will refer clients to a veterinary behaviorist or qualified trainer specializing in extreme behavior cases." Boarding and daycare are capped: "Typically, I only consider current training and pet care clients or referrals from current clients as new boarding clients."
Where
The About page says "Located off of Lexington Road in Richmond, KY" and that "All services by appointment only." The pick-up and drop-off FAQ measures its radius from Nicholasville instead, so the site itself carries both towns.
