About Core K9 Training

Who runs it

Core K9 Training is at 1024 Golden Leaf Blvd., Richmond. Its About page names three people. Amber "is the founder and lead trainer," with "a background in competitive obedience and behavior modification." The site's own FAQ sets out her credentials: "over 8 years of professional experience working with dogs including 3 years apprenticing under a mentor," "a certified Professional Member of the IACP (International Association for Canine Profesionals)," "Founding Member of the UABA (United American Bully Association)," "President of Bluegrass WDC," and "Evaluator for AKC and UKC." Clayton, "Known affectionately as the 'Doodle Dude,'" leads structured playgroups and coaches clients. Samantha "supports both private training and group classes."

Why the name

The About page answers it directly: "we focus on the core of dog training and behavior: building a strong, reliable foundation of obedience."

What they offer

Six programs are named: Board & Train, Day Train, Private Lessons, Overnight Boarding, Puppy Programs and Structured Daycare, with group classes run as "our Core K9 Dojo Classes." Named board-and-train variants include a "2-Week Puppy Development Program," a "4-Week Everyday Dog Board & Train Program," a "Core Canine" program and a "Concerned Canine Board & Train Program" for "dogs showing signs of reactivity, aggression, or fear-based behaviors." Day Train "gives your dog focused training two days a week." Puppy programs are "designed for puppies under 5 months old." The site also runs AKC STAR Puppy group classes.

The differentiator they claim

"Our Board & Train program is the only one in Kentucky that includes weekend home visits — so your dog doesn't just learn with us, they learn with you."

Reach and payment

The site says it serves "Nicholasville, Georgetown, Lexington, London, Winchester, and beyond," offers free phone consultations, and provides financing "through ScratchPay," with programs "paid in full prior to the first day."

What they say about hard cases

"We proudly offer both obedience training and behavior modification to dogs across Richmond and Lexington, KY — including those other trainers have given up on."
