About Absolute Gun Dogs

What they offer

Absolute Gun Dogs is a family gun dog training kennel on Lincoln Road east of Bismarck, run by Dan and Jennifer Murray. It offers obedience training for all breeds, gun dog training and field trial handling, and it also breeds British Labs, English Springer Spaniels and English Cocker Spaniels.

Training

Obedience training uses traditional positive reinforcement for commands such as sit, stay, come and heel. Gun dog training runs at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels: a started dog learns quartering, wind work, water introduction and marked retrieves; an intermediate dog adds longer retrieves and handling on short blind retrieves; a finished dog is steady to wing and shot and takes whistle and hand signals on blind retrieves. Training uses dummies and live birds on the kennel's own training grounds of native prairie with a water pond, and two full-time trainers are on staff. Training dogs board at the kennel, and the kennel asks for a commitment of at least two months.

Method

The kennel uses traditional methods featuring positive reinforcement and does not use electronic collars at any stage. Boarding and doggie daycare are also offered.
