Shed antler dogs

Antler Ridge in Smithville is a training facility dedicated primarily to the sport of shed hunting, teaching dogs to find and retrieve shed antlers. The site says the owners began as bird dog trainers in the 1960s, that Antler Dogs dates from 2004, and that it has trained over 500 dogs in 35 states as well as in Canada and Europe.

Method

Roger and Sharon Sigler describe their approach as the Science of Participative training: reward-based, with no pinching, hitting or force, which the site says lets them start students at 8 weeks of age.

Dogs and pricing

The pricing page gives approximate prices for antler dogs at several stages: puppies at $1200, started puppies at $2500, intermediate dogs at $4500 and finished dogs at $9000 – 15000. Visitors are welcome, and the owners say they will answer questions about how they can help with an owner's own dog. Call (816) 289-1154.
