About BarksBurg Dogs

Clicker training in the New River Valley

BarksBurg Dogs is a certified and insured dog training business serving Blacksburg, Christiansburg and other New River Valley areas. It offers group obedience classes, private training and behavior modification, and has trained professionally in the area since 2014.

Method

The business teaches clicker training based on positive reinforcement and states that it never uses choke chains, prong collars, electronic collars or other devices that may hurt a dog.

Group classes

Seven-week Basic Manners Level 1 and Level 2 courses are held in an indoor arena in Newport, VA ($110). A five-week Canine Good Citizen class ends with the test in the final week ($100).

Private and behavior sessions

Private training covers obedience, greetings and leash walking, in your home or another convenient location. Behavior modification addresses problems such as separation anxiety and reactivity. Sessions run 45 minutes to an hour at $80 each, or in packages of three or five, with travel charges possible outside Blacksburg and Christiansburg.

The trainer

The owner holds the CPDT-KA certification.

What to ask

Ask when the next Basic Manners session starts and whether a private or behavior package fits your dog.
