About Pet Behavior Change, LLC

A behaviorist practice in Blacksburg

Pet Behavior Change is the practice of a board-certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB) with a Ph.D. in psychology, based in Blacksburg. It offers in-home services to families within 50 miles of Blacksburg, covering the New River Valley and Roanoke areas, and remote consultations nationwide.

How the service works

The in-home series ($675 for dogs) is four sessions over roughly 8 to 16 weeks: an in-home behavioral assessment, a written behavior or training plan, two follow-up home sessions and a follow-up by phone or video. A remote series ($575 for dogs) follows the same pattern by phone or video. Extra follow-up sessions are $100 an hour in home. Cats are seen too.

What it handles

The site lists aggression toward people or other animals, fear, separation anxiety, house-training trouble and marking, barking, jumping, resource guarding, leash pulling and reactivity, and general noncompliance. Families whose puppies or adult dogs need basic obedience are also taught to train sit, down, stay, come and leave it with positive reinforcement.

What to ask

Ask whether you are inside the 50-mile in-home area, how soon services can start (the site says typically 2 to 3 weeks), and whether a remote series suits your situation.
