About Big Dog Ranch Rescue

Rescue and training in Loxahatchee Groves

Big Dog Ranch Rescue is a cage-free dog rescue on a 33-acre campus at 14444 Okeechobee Blvd. in Loxahatchee Groves, "Healing and changing lives since 2008." Its training arm, Big Dog University, works from the belief that any dog can be helped through proper training of the dog and owner, and that most problems come from misunderstandings plus a lack of mental and physical fulfillment.

Big Dog University

Private training is by appointment Tuesday through Saturday. On campus, a consult is $45, a 30-minute puppy crash course for pups under 4 months is $55/$65, and packages of 3 or 5 sessions are offered; off-property or in-home sessions within 20 miles start at $175. Group basic training is a five-class package at $150/$175, with separate Saturday groups for puppies under a year and adults. A three-class Frog Avoidance Class teaches dogs to avoid Bufo frogs using e-collar and leash ($250), and private AKC classes prepare dogs for CGC, Advanced CGC and AKC Puppy STAR ($400). The lower prices apply to dogs adopted through the rescue.

Veteran program

The Veteran Service Dog Training program prepares rescue dogs as service dogs for veterans with PTSD; the rescue says it has trained and paired 150 so far.
