About Canine Sports Unlimited

What Canine Sports Unlimited offers

Canine Sports Unlimited runs a training center at 351 Oriskany Blvd in Whitesboro under the line "From puppies to police dogs, we train them all!". Its published services split into two halves: pet training for owners with everyday problems, and competition work for handlers who want to title a dog.

Group classes and private work

Group obedience runs at six levels and is described as helping a dog become reliable on the basic commands despite distractions; the site says puppies can start as young as ten weeks. For owners whose schedules do not fit a class, or who learn better one to one, the center offers private lessons "both in home and at our training center for basic obedience or problem behaviors". Behavioral modification is listed as its own service. The site addresses harder cases directly: "Does your dog have aggression issues with people or other dogs? Is he/she reactive or anxious while you walk down the street?"

Sport and competition

Agility is offered for fun or for competition. Scent work is described as training the dog to find a specific odor and alert the handler, again either for nose work competition or for enrichment. Rally is presented as a gentle way into the competition world, mixing agility elements, traditional obedience and tricks. Conformation practice classes prepare dogs and handlers for the show ring, and weight pull is offered both as a sport and as an outlet the site says helps settle anxious or excitable dogs. A group called Happy Ratters also runs at the center.

Protection

Under Protection the site says: "We offer bite work with our decoy for many different protection sports as well as personal protection. Our trainers actively compete in both W.D.A. and French Ring trials. We are comfortable working all breeds."

The trainers

Three trainers are named. John Rose has trained professionally since 1991, ran a pet store and later a boarding, training and grooming kennel, bred working American Bulldogs and competes at high levels of control and protection work. Nathalie Lussier started in 1986, has worked in obedience, flyball, tracking, agility, bite work and Schutzhund, judges for the World Canine Freestyle Organization, teaches nose work, agility, rally, Happy Ratters and conformation, and lists AKC and Performance Scent Dog judging appointments plus AKC CGC, Farm Dog and Trick Dog evaluator roles and a Certified Canine Fitness Trainer qualification. Laura Yaghy has trained professionally for about eighteen years, directs a bull-breed rescue, names basic obedience, aggression, reactivity and anxiety as her specialties, and states certification through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers.

Daycare with training

The center also runs a supervised daycare program staffed by trainers, and notes that a dog can receive obedience training during the day. All dogs must pass a behavior evaluation with a trainer before being cleared to attend.
