Overview
About Diane Bauman
Diane Bauman trains from a 32-acre farm at 138 Mitchell Rd in Chuckey; her site names the farm “Flying Ewe Ranch” and the training facility “Dawgdome South”.
What is offered
The facilities page lists private lessons in “Obedience, Agility, Tracking, Service Dog training and Sheepherding”, and adds that she “also works with behavioral issues and puppy training for all breeds of dogs”. Training runs indoors in a heated and air-conditioned building and outdoors in lit, fully fenced rings. Overnight accommodation is available on site in an apartment with its own fenced yard and RV electric hook-ups, which matters for clients traveling in for lessons.
Training philosophy, in her own words
The philosophy page states she was “one of the first trainers to put into print… that dogs could think and solve problems”, that dogs “learn by trial and error”, and that good training gives a dog “the right to be wrong” so he can learn from his mistakes. It describes teaching “in a relaxed atmosphere where ‘mistakes are good’”, with dogs and handlers learning through decisions that are either rewarded or ignored. Her own line, split across the page as she wrote it: “When a dog figures something out” … “they will remember it forever.”
Also published
The site carries books and DVDs to buy or rent, including an agility book and paid-access obedience and tracking material, with separate pages for service-dog training, herding, tracking, private training and problem solving. Ask about prices and the class schedule.
