About Dog Educated

Dog Educated builds its whole identity around a single argument, which it states on the home page: dog training is an unregulated industry that requires no licensing or formal education whatsoever, and dogs and their families deserve better. The name is the argument.

The credential claim

The site says its trainers attended what it calls the most rigorous, advanced program available for animal learning and behavior, The Academy for Dog Trainers, and that the coursework included counseling so that clients end up educated too. It lists being formally educated in animal learning and behavior, staying current on relevant studies through continued education, using effective, efficient and humane methods, and providing supportive coaching for the owner.

What is offered

Four services are published. Group classes are the entry point. Private training runs one-on-one, in-home or on-site, scheduled around the owner. Workshops and seminars cover specific areas of animal learning and behavior. The Family Dog is a program for the whole household, framed for both a new puppy and an older dog whose skills need work. Dog walking appears in the service list as well.

Who is on the team

Lisa Skavienski is published as Trainer and Behavior Consultant with the post-nominals CTC and CSAT. Her biography says she gained her foundation through the Karen Pryor Academy in 2013 and developed an appetite for continued learning from there, that alongside private clients she has provided behavior support to rescue and shelter dogs through the local animal welfare community, and that she participates in an ongoing case study group with peers.

The tone

A published client comment describes trainers who have completed grueling hours and certified themselves with science-based rather than fear-based training. The site's own summary line is that its work is evidence-based and pet approved.

Who it’s best for

Best for an owner who wants credentialed, science-based behavior work, and particularly for separation anxiety cases given the CSAT credential.
