About Duke Dog Care

In-home dog care and one-on-one training

Duke Dog Care describes itself as “owned and operated by pet care specialist, Ryan Pry,” providing “personal in-home dog training, grooming, dog walking, overnight care & more since 2017.” The about page says the business is named for a dog called Duke, listed as 2007–2021, and that it started “with only a handful of pups on our schedule” and now has “over 100 pets of many different breeds & species on our team.”

Background the site gives

The same page says Ryan “has been working professionally with animals since 2014, starting with part-time dog walking and pet sitting,” and that he has worked in pet stores, dog daycare facilities, catteries, veterinary clinics and grooming salons as well as being a dog trainer. It adds that he is enrolled in a veterinary technician program at Penn Foster.

Training format

Training is custom one-on-one, sold as packages or individual sessions. The training page splits it into obedience training — sit, stay, recall and leash walking — and behavioral training, which it says “focuses mainly on aggressive and/or reactive dogs” and places “an emphasis on exposure therapy.” The recommended starting point is a consultation, after which a custom plan is built; the page frames the arrangement as “more of a weekly membership rather than individual training sessions,” with priority access to the trainer between sessions. It says dogs typically need about 6-8 weeks and recommends a minimum of one hour a week for at least 6 weeks. On cost, the page states training “typically will cost about $100/hr” and that a 6-8 week program “will total to approx. $600-$800,” with discounted package rates available.
